MIJE Maubuisson Youth Hostel – Paris Marais
In the heart of the Marais district, MIJE youth hostels welcome you all year round in its 17th century buildings. Approved by Jeunesse et Sports for the collective reception of groups of minors, the hostels have more than 400 beds in private or shared rooms, a restaurant and two activity rooms. MIJE youth hostels are an ideal place to start your walking tours during your stay in Paris: only a 10-minute walk from Notre-Dame or the Opéra Bastille. Thanks to the numerous means of transportation nearby, you can also get to some of the most important places in Paris such as the Champs Elysées, the Eiffel Tower or the Sacré-Cœur.
The Hôtel de Maubuisson bears the name of the town near Pontoise where Queen Blanche of Castile had installed Cistercian nuns in 1242, before the hotel intended for the business of this community was established in 1276, in the Saint-Antoine district of Paris. It kept the name of Maubuisson. Due to a lack of documents, the history of this site is only really known from the end of the 16th century: Angélique d’Estrées, sister of Henri IV’s mistress and new abbess of Maubuisson, had the lease granted that had been to a negligent tenant revoked. Until 1689, there was a succession of occupants in the two buildings making up the property: in 1672, the abbess had rented them to a community of teaching nuns who remained there for more than a century, before the hotel was sold to the Daughters of the Cross. In 1789 the property was confiscated and the nuns dispersed. The City of Paris sold it in 1795 to a cattle merchant, before regaining possession of the two buildings together around 1850 and, after renovation work, in 1971, it granted the use of the premises to MIJE, for the reception of young people from all over the world.
“In order to make the most of your stay, our teams have set up a health protocol linked to the Covid-19. The MIJE are signatories of the Caring Attitude charter and the Declaration of Health Protocol of the WYSE, the international organisation of educational travel actors”.
