Your school trip to

Discover the city built by the bishop of Avranches at the request of Archangel Michael. Along with Rome and Saint-Jacques, Saint-Michel was the spiritual and intellectual home of medieval Western Europe. You will also visit the fortified town, founded by the Welsh monk Maclow, which became the richest city in the kingdom thanks to its sailors, discoverers and privateers.

1/ SAINT MALO

Departure by coach. Free time for lunch. Guided tour of Saint-Malo: city founded in the 12th century, the walled city was almost entirely destroyed during the battles of 1944, then rebuilt stone by stone OR unaccompanied visit of the Grand Aquarium. Evening meal and accommodation.

2/ MONT SAINT MICHEL

Breakfast. Unaccompanied visit of the abbey, a major pilgrimage destination from the 8th to 18th century. Tour of old town in your own time: the Grande Rue lined with old houses from the 15th and 16th centuries, the ramparts and a stroll around the parapet walk which offers beautiful views over the bay. Picnic packed lunch. Guided walk with commentary at the bay of Mont Saint-Michel, to discover the pebble beaches and rocky foreshore and learn about silting and sedimentation in the bay. Return to accommodation.
